A Cohiba Red Dot

I’m going to break out of my comfort zone to talk about something I never talk about. Since taking my first step into spirituality, manifesting has been just outside my understanding. I talked with a few people. I watched countless YouTube videos. Nothing ever seemed to take hold of me and say “This is it! This is the route for you!” I tried several things from writing, to meditating with intention. To no avail. Except for a few small things that I had no idea how they happened.

Moving on to a few months back when I smoked my first cigar. I had always wanted to smoke cigars as long as I could remember, but knew nothing about them and my wife wasn’t very fond of the idea either. Then a truck driver came into my workplace smoking a very small cigar. I asked what it was, he asked if I wanted one. The cigarillo was called a Clint’s, it was modeled after the small smokes Clint Eastwood held in his lips in his spaghetti westerns (He’s not a smoker IRL). It was sweet, delicious and didn’t have so much nicotine that it made me sick.

Like the nerd I am, I began researching cigars. Top Brands. Top Countries. Then figured I’d look into the brands that celebrities were into. Arnold Schwarzeneggar, Jack Nicholson, Ron Pearlman, John Belushi, as well as those long gone like Winston Churchill and Mark Twain. Two of the brands that came up a lot were Monte Cristo and Cohiba.

Now granted, these are people who travel the world and have the luxury of buying these cigars from Cuba. Those available in the USA are licensed to use the name and the tobacco comes from Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, and other places, but still promise a superb smoking experience.

A quick look online and I discovered these brands are $18–25 USD, on the low end. There was no way I was going to be able to drop that kind of money on one stick without feeling guilty. So I diversified and bought cigars in the $2–8 range and bought enough for a week at a time.

I knew I’d be able to get at least one of each a Cohiba and Monte Cristo as Chistmas presents. My wife was telling me to just buy them (bless her heart, she loves me or was just tired of hearing me talk about them). But I never really buy myself the things I actually want.

Then came the #humdayhorrorhullabaloo prompts hosted by @gilliwrites on Instagram. I decided to give a character in one of my responses, a Cohiba. It was just a small detail. A tiny one. I wanted a Cohiba and thought it would be cool if he had one. Tyat post is one of the highest as far as interactions. A friend even told me the Cohiba was a nice touch. I was quite proud of the little story.

A week or so later, Cigars International posted a big sale. A $400+ value for $120. Thirty-five cigars total. Included in the deal? Five Cohiba Red Dots and five Monte Cristo White Labels. These aren’t the high end of the brands, by no means, but still pricier than I wanted to pay by the stick at my local tobacconist. And here they were in this deal that put them at below $3.50. Not to mention my humidor would be full for a month. I jumped on it.

It was still a while after I received my package, before I smoked a Cohiba. Nearly a month. I was in shock that I had them. Then I remembered my little story I had posted. That tiny detail that was in there. My guy had a Cohiba with little thought. Now I have one. Did I manifest this small detail into my reality? Was it just a coincidence?

It wasn’t until I told a good friend, my brother from another mother, about it. About the connection. I told him I wondered if I did that with my story. He said absolutely. He believed things like that could happen. That’s what it took to convince me.

I’m still not sure how I did it, but I’ll be using my stories to manifest more often. Join me if you wish. Just something small. A tiny detail with little thought. Send it out into the world, the universe.
